Malaysia’s fashion icon, Zang Toi, presented his SS 2013 collection at the Lincoln Center during New York Fashion Week. The house was packed and filled with an eager audience awaiting to see his latest creations. Famous faces in attendance included Kirstie Alley, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Shontelle Layne, and Toi’s muse, Julie Macklowe.
Zang Toi’s collection was a romantic’s dream. Ruffles, florals, soft pastels, silks, lace, and jewels reflected the styles and aesthetics of the French Riviera, the inspiration for this line. The show began with day wear as the 1st jaw-dropping number made its way to the runway, a luxurious floor-length light-weight coat that was adorned with silk-chiffon ruffles. Pin-striped suiting and tweed dresses that paid homage to the sexy secretary look soon followed. At this point, the collection seemed to have been going on a more neutral color palette, until a model appeared in a light pink dress. Color was here and it wasn’t going anywhere!
Evening wear entered the scene and it felt like a modern fairy-tale princess’ dream come true. Dresses and gowns in shades of light pink, yellow and lavender that were adorned with shiny jewels, dominated the runway. The show came to a close with a small capsule of black and ivory evening numbers.
Romance, femininity, and luxury were well illustrated in Zang Toi’s Spring Summer collection. Although it was a little confusing to go from sexy secretary to fairy-tale princess, the audience seemed to have loved it, giving it a standing ovation. (Images courtesy of NY Mag)
