Best of The Emmy’s: What They Wore

Bold colors, layers of chiffon and elegant lines. These were the biggest gown trends seen this year on the Emmy red carpet and the best looks balanced between two juxtapositions. Classic silhouettes were modernized with bright pops of colors.  Innocent layers of chiffon turn sexy with thigh high slits.

Vampire Diaries starlet Nina Dobrev looked incredible in a bright red Donna Karen fishtail gown. Julie Bowen of Modern Family looked classic in her Monique Lhuillier bright yellow strapless dress, proving that a bright color can make a classic shape fresh and new.

Heidi Klum channeled some 70s awesomeness in an Alexandre Vaultier dress that enveloped the model in layers of teal chiffon with sexy thigh high slits and finished with a pair of  Charlotte Olympia platforms. Zoey Deschanel looked sugary sweet in a Reem Acra gown which featured piles of raw edged chiffon for a modern twist.

And my absolute favorite of the evening is Julianne Moore in Raf Simmons for Dior Couture. Chartreuse and long-sleeved, styled simply with straight hair and red lips, the dress floored me. So risky yet so perfect. A dramatic train ensures that the gown isn’t too underdone.

It recalls the best of Dior, and yet it was mixed through with all the modernity that designer Raf Simons brought to the house of Jil Sander and now will bring to the house of Dior.
