Mataano Twins Ayaan & Idyl Mohallim Rule The Runway During New York Fashion Week
On Monday, February 11th, the fashion community came together for an exclusive runway preview of the Fall/Winter 2013 Mataano collection. Mataano, is the brainchild of Brooklyn twin sisters; Ayaan & Idyl Mohallim. The sisters eager to broaden their horizons and push the brand further; presented a collection of 20 looks, a direction that placed emphasis on power dressing. The design duo, defines their customer as a strong and edgy woman, one whom is in complete control of her own destiny.

The vibrant collection sashayed down the catwalk, patent leather and animal printed silks were paired with loose-fitting knits. The kind of collection that any would be city-girl could dream of. Impeccably tailored coats, heavy washed silks accented with a touch of menswear embellishments tied the collection together beautifully. The collection is urban-meets-chic in the streets of New York with rich colors such as; pink mocha, Bordeaux, and the definitive color of the season navy. Onyx black rounded out the looks and set the tone for a collection that was surely well received.

Mataano, which means “twins” in Somali is a women’s contemporary ready-to-wear line with pieces that redefine timeless elegance. The line is infused with a modern edgy approach to design and an awareness for global sensibility. The sisters launched the line in 2008, and since then have been taking steps to deliver collections that capture their vision and design aesthetic.
