Coachella Style With Chanelle of The Penelope Times

Ah Coachella, a weekend spent in the palm tree laiden landscaped desert that is Palm Springs. It’s a weekend filled with eclectic music, pool parties, and style! And if you’ve never been, Coachella is like living a weekend in a dream land where fashion is everywhere you turn and music is a common ground. I’ve been to the festival a few times and I absolutely love it, but this year I went for the parties. I’m so excited to take you with me on my weekend away in the desert oasis that is Coachella…

We spent some time at the BCBG x Benefit Beauty Bungalow event

This Coachella weekend was extra special for me because I got the chance to go with LuLu*s. They covered the accommodations and gave us multiple outfits to pick from for the weekend. I started off the weekend by checking into the beautiful Skylark hotel, a boutique hotel that has a minimalist mod vibe and a super cute pool in the center. I never wanted to leave and spent a lot of time by the pool on my down time. Once we were all settled in, we got ready and headed out to the BCBG x Benefit Beauty Bungalow event at a private residence in Palm Springs. The house was absolutely GORGEOUS with an OPI room for manicures, a styling/gifting suite filled with BCBG goodies, makeup area courtesy of Benefit, open bar and food. After saying my hello’s and grabbing a drink I wandered into the gifting suite and proceeded to live a Cinderella experience. They had personal stylists in the room that helped you pick out a full outfit of BCBG from head to toe. You were able to try on anything your little heart desires including accessories, bathing suits and even sunglasses. Once you found the outfit of your dreams (I’m talking runway designs in this suite) they snapped a photo and sent you on your way out to the rest of the party dipped in BCBG. I came to the party wearing one outfit and left wearing a completely different one. I chose a pair of drop-crotch pants and a bathing suit and could not be happier about my choices. After lounging at the Beauty Bungalow for a little while longer we headed to the Harper’s Bazaar Shop Bazaar event. It was a pop up shop with open bar, yummy bites and of course, a fabulous pool at the Parker Hotel. The DJ was amazing and we danced into the evening surrounded by fashionistas alike. A nice start to the weekend and now it was time to refresh and catch up on a little work by the pool.

That evening we ordered pizza by the pool while taking a little swim which is really the best way to spend any evening, and proceeded to head out to the Details Magazine party. With complimentary valet, a shuttle to the party and wristbands we were all set to party into the night. We walked in to what felt like an amusement park type field (minus the rides) which ended up being a private residence with a never ending back yard (a gorgeous one at that). Complimentary Fatburger and tacos welcomed us into the party followed by a sponsored bar by Hennessey. The DJ was playing hip hop which lead into a performance by DEV. I kept hearing rumors of Nas performing but my friends in tact were skeptical. I kept hope alive and low and behold, Nas comes out after Dev. Even if hip hop isn’t your thing, Nas is a huge, influential artist and anyone could appreciate catching him live. That performance made the whole party worth it and just that fact that I can add Nas to the list of performers I’ve seen is such a huge accomplishment.

Waking up on a natural high from the night before, I headed to a photoshoot for Lulu*s at the Skylark Pool on Saturday morning. I got showered in clothes and shoes from the site to model and style at Coachella as well as participating in these couple of photoshoots for their site (another Cinderella moment). I posed by the pool with my fellow blogger buddies in the beautiful Palm Springs sun. Not a bad way to start off my morning. Next, the age old question of Coachella weekend: do we hop around to multiple parties? Or do we stay at one and ride it out. This time we chose to stay at one which was Rhonda, an LA based party which was held at the bright and colorful Saguaro. I snapped some street style photos for Electric Frenchie, an Austin based online boutique and also Denim Blog who I am a contributing writer for. Once my work was finished, I headed into the Revolve Clothing section of the party. My friend MC’s the party and was able to get us some wristbands to the Revolve section to which we enjoyed open bar, gifted crop tops and bathing suits by NAVEN and fun instagram print outs. We danced to the sweet sounds of disco house into the evening and had an amazing time. Our night ended with close friends at my hotel room and a night swim. We all needed to recoup after two long days to start fresh for the last one.

Sunday morning started with another photoshoot with Lulu*s and the afternoon was filled with pool time with close friends. We headed out to the Guess? party that our friends we’re DJ’ing at, around 4pm. The highlight? Getting evaluated by The Bumby’s (http://www.thebumbys.com/index.html/). My evaluation said, and i quote “Love the look- You’ve always had great style I can tell, I feel like in high school you admired girls that went outside the box like Bjork and now you’ve turned that admiration into your own thing. Like if anyone could pull off a swan dress it would be you. Wanna style me for my next event? I do masks and wigs. Thanks so much. ” The open bar and Rony’s Photobooth was an added plus and once it ended we headed out to the Do-Over. We caught this party at the tail end but that didn’t mean that we missed out. The music was amazing, as always (the Do Over is another LA based party that is personally one of my favorites to attend) consisting of Allyiah and some hits of today. Dinner and another night swim ended our night because, why not. All in all my weekend was fulfilled with spending time with friends, parties and playing dress up. I love Coachella because each experience is different and just as memorable. Thanks Skylark Hotel and Lulu*s! Until next time Coachella! xo
