Exhibit Ambush Phase 2 pop up pre show makes for a good cause at Oliver Hair Design Studio
Many gathered at Oliver Hair design studio in San Diego’s up and coming trendy neighborhood of South Park for a sneak preview of the big fashion event to come. Fashion designers, makeup artists, DJ’s, guests and fashionistas all gathered together under one roof for a night of fun, art, fashion and to support a good cause! The event Exhibit Ambush Phase 2, which is a collaborative fashion event set to happen October 19th which will feature fashion emerging designers from San Diego as well as New York fashion designers Jesus and Antonio Estrada. Jesus has been featured on Project Runway and Antonio on Discovery Español. The hostess for that night will be Leslie Hughes from the latest season of The Bachelor. The hostess of the night was Antoinette Ransom, executive producer of Ambush Exhibit 2.
Once I arrived at the salon it felt like I walked into an art museum rather than a hair salon. Beautifully decorated with art pieces and wall art paintings. The fashion event also benefited the Susan G. Komen foundation dedicated to breast cancer research. There were pink colored cupcake and pink ribbon decorated cookies on display for guests to enjoy. Proceeds of the Fashion week San Diego tickets went to the foundation as well. There were designers who will feature their spring summer collections for 2014 at the pop up show and displayed their work of art. It gave the guests a sneak peak at what to expect for the big event. The night was filled with artist, designers, dj’s spinning the latest hits, as well as models, fashionistas and a few familiar faces from last years fashion week San Diego. Whitney Nicole from Creative Fashionista was in attendance to promote her new spring summer 2014 collection. I caught up with the designer as she opened up on her latest collection that she will showcase at the Exhibit in October. “I am going to be presenting a forgotten love affair which is inspired by ballet and the love and passion behind ballet. Everything I have made I think how you could perform in it”. So will the creative fashionista be participating at this years San Diego Fashion week again?
“ Not this year but hopefully next. This year I will be showing more of my gowns from red carpet to attire clothes to wedding and menswear”. Whitney will be performing at Ambush Phase 2 show in October where she will be showcasing her collections.
The designers displayed their works of art on manikins giving the theme of an art gallery. The night celebrated all forms of art, from body painting, to art paintings, to stand up poetry. Another designer who caught my eye was Jacqueline Banting who is all about using unconventional materials and recyclables for her fashion collections. “ I did a show two years ago and I used hard plastic for my collection. This year I wanted to do something different and I thought trash bags were most versatile. It helps you think outside the box”. Jacqueline will be showcasing her spring summer collection 2014 at next months Ambush Phase 2 fashion event. One interesting thing about this creative designer is she is self taught and never attended a fashion college for training. Her adorable bathing suit designs are a work of art in themselves.
